What Exactly Is a Mom Bod?

So, you might have heard the term “mom bod” floating around, right? But what exactly is it? Well, let me break it down for you.

Celebrating Your Post-Baby Body 12 Ways to Embracing the Mom Bod

It is meant to be a positive term, celebrating motherhood’s beauty and honoring all moms have achieved in caring for their children.

So, no matter the stretch marks, extra curves, or any changes that may have happened along the way, your mom bod is a masterpiece of strength, love, and resilience.

How to embrace a mom bod?

As a new mom accepting your body changes is not easy, I get it. it can be hard to accept all the changes that happen during pregnancy and postpartum.

If you’re struggling to accept your postpartum body (and beyond), I want to help you see just how beautiful your body is the way it is.

The following are 12 things I kept in mind as I went through my journey of accepting my body after becoming a mom and you can too.

What are some ways to celebrate and appreciate my post-baby body?

I’m here to tell you that I have been through this mommy-bod depression and here I am to help you on your journey of self-love and acceptance.

Acceptance Begins with You:

First things first, let’s show ourselves some love, mama! Remember, postpartum body changes are real and so is postpartum depression.

But you must know that it is not the end of the world. Your mom bod is nothing short of amazing! Those stretch marks and extra curves. They’re proof of your strength and beauty – a testament to the supermom that you are.

Celebrate Your Journey:

Motherhood isn’t easy. It is a rollercoaster ride with all the emotions hitting you altogether – laughter, tears, and everything in between. The sacrifices you make and the love you pour into your little ones make you a superhero in their eyes, don’t you think?

What are some ways to celebrate and appreciate my post-baby body?

Accept that your post-pregnancy body is different than it was before, and it’s perfectly okay! It may take some time to get used to the changes, but be kind to yourself in the process.

Surround Yourself with Supportive Moms:

We’re in this together, mama! Find your mom tribe, whether it’s friends, local groups, or online communities. Having each other’s back boosts our confidence and makes us feel like we can conquer anything!

There are other moms out there who need your support too. Give them yours!

Practice Self-Care:

Oh my, I know it’s hard, I mean, so hard. But, self-care is a must! You deserve some pampering too, mama.

Take time for yourself, and do anything that relaxes you.

It is incredibly important to have a me-time, be it soaking in a bubble bath, getting lost in a good book, simply taking a peaceful stroll, or simply reading a book of your choice. These moments of self-love will do wonders for your soul.

Let’s forget about those unrealistic beauty standards, shall we? What really matters is feeling strong and healthy.

Forget the numbers on the scale and focus on nourishing your body with good food and doing activities that make you feel alive.

A well-balanced diet rich in calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and other essential nutrients, combined with regular physical activity, is key to supporting optimal bone health throughout life.

Embrace Your Unique Beauty:

Stop comparing yourself to others, mama. You’re one-of-a-kind! Your mom bod is a beautiful story of love and resilience. Every scar, stretch mark, and curve is a symbol of the miracle of bringing life into this world.

Embrace it and own it!

You have done what is not easy to be done. You brought life to this world. This is indeed an achievement on its own.

Emphasize Self-Compassion:

We’re not perfect, and that’s perfectly okay! Give yourself some grace and replace those negative thoughts with positive ones.

Treat yourself with the same love and kindness you show your little ones. Engage in activities that make you feel relaxed and reconnected with yourself.

Dress for Confidence:

Put on those outfits that make you feel like a superstar! Dress for yourself and your comfort, not to impress anyone else. When you feel confident, it shines through, and you’ll rock your mom bod with pride.

Celebrate Small Victories:

Every step counts, mama! Celebrate even the littlest wins, like fitting into your favorite jeans or feeling more confident in your skin. Progress is a key and you improve yourself every single day bit by bit. So take it slow.

Make a goal list if you feel like it. Try to accomplish one goal at a time. Appreciate yourself and your strength at each step you take small or big.

Teach Your Children Self-Love:

When you love yourself, you teach your children the same thing. By loving yourself regardless of pain and hurt, you’re teaching your kids a valuable lesson about being confident.

Show them that confidence comes from within, not from appearances. We’re raising a generation of strong and self-assured little hearts.

Let Go of Comparison:

You’re on your own unique path, mama. Comparing yourself to others steals your joy. Embrace your mommy journey, and let go of the need to measure up to anyone else.

You’re doing an incredible job!

Instead of comparing yourself to others on social media, let’s start celebrating the achievements of other amazing moms and women who’ve made positive changes in their lives after having babies.

Peek at your Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok (and any other accounts) and unfollow anything that brings negativity or encourages body shame.

How do I start a self-love journey with my mommy bod?

Embracing your mom bod is all about self-love and acceptance, mama. Celebrate the miracle of motherhood, cherish your unique beauty, and surround yourself with support.

Take care of yourself!

Please ditch those unrealistic standards, and remember that you’re strong, beautiful, and loved. Love yourself, embrace your mom bod, and let your incredible mom glow shine brighter than ever! You’ve got this, mama!
