20 Essential Self-Care Ideas For Moms With Less Time

Self-care for busy moms has become more of a luxury with the passage of time than a necessity. Self-care isn’t trying to distract yourself from your work rather it relaxes you and makes your extra efficient.

I remember I would say the word “self-care” literally 5 times a day and would do plenty to take care of myself during half of my 20s.

After becoming a mother, I have realized sometime we spend so much time caring for others and working towards achieving our goals, we often feel guilty about caring for ourselves beyond the basics like exercising and eating a healthy diet.

Well, I am here to tell you that a self-care activity is a must as a mother to make you feel recharged. So, creating a me-time routine or any other task that helps you relax is a must and is included in self-care.

I will be sharing some of my favorite self-care ideas for moms that I personally love to do and enjoy myself.

Why Is Self-Care Not Important Rather Crucial?

It’s so easy to neglect ourselves because as moms we have so much on our plate daily. We’re busy and overwhelmed and look ridiculously selfish when taking care of ourselves.

Trust me, we are wrong here. The more we take good care of ourselves the more complete we may feel and the more dedicated we shall become. To invest in self-care, you don’t have to have all the luxuries right in your hand. Just taking some time off and looking after yourself will do enough.

Here are a few reasons to let you know the importance of self-care goals as a mom:

Self-care prevents overwhelming:

We’ve all been there, mamas. From the everyday chores to taking care of our children, we often reach a point where we push ourselves to the point that we can no longer take it anymore. The result is we just normally give up. With a good self-care guide, we can prevent getting to this point.

Self-care reduces the effects of stress:

Stress breaks down your mind and body. A self-care and wellness routine reduces the amount of stress you face on a daily basis. Taking care of yourself means keeping your stress from taking over so you can function effectively.

Self-care helps you focus:

As a mom, I have so much to do every single day that I usually forget some most important things. Here I realize how important it is giving yourself some break. Having a good self-care routine helps you perform better. You can also include some self-care meditation in the morning to relax and keep your sanity for the whole day.

Now, you have a clear version as to why self-care for moms is so important in life, it doesn’t matter if you’re a working mother or a SAHM like me. Incorporating a few self-care ideas for moms is so important to keep you in tune.

20 Essential Self-Care Ideas For Moms With Less Time

Here are some of my favorite self-care things to do in your life as a busy or working mom:

Spend time with your family:

Go for a walk or ride with your kids and enjoy your time alone with them without any distraction of mobile or other electronics.

Get out of your comfort zone:

Talking helps release buildup stress. Find someone to talk to even if it’s just talking to a stranger at the bus stop.

Write a journal:

Make a journal where you list your achievements, goals, and ideas. Or start a compliments file to document the great things people say about you to read later.

Prepare something special:

Make a meal, set the table, and enjoy without distraction either yourself or with your family.

Go out to your favorite place:

Go to your favorite coffee shop and order a special drink in a mug. Or else, enjoy some window shopping to ease up your mind.

Draw or paint:

If you’re an artist its time to show some serious artistry. Draw or paint whatever you like to help relax.

Fix issues that nag you:

There may be a few things here and there in your home which is driving on your nerves right now. Ease up your mind by fixing them.

Change decision-making strategy:

You always use your head to decide, now decide something you’re your heart. Maybe things will start changing.

Read a book you love:

Read something you love sitting in a quiet place with having your favorite coffee. Here are a few suggestions for books for moms.

Try some physical activity:

This doesn’t have to be vigorous. You can take a long walk alone or with your partner. Or you can exercise or do any kind of yoga for self-care meditation.

Change your diet:

Try to incorporate healthy meals in your diet that helps you release stress and promote good sleep. Drink an extra glass of water each day, or have an extra portion of veggies with each meal.

Take a quick nap:

Ten to twenty minutes nap can reduce the burden and stress you’re carrying on your shoulder. Try to have a nap daily.

Imagine yourself as your best friend:

You’re your best friend. Never forget that. Just tell yourself this every day and say whatever your heart has to say while looking at yourself in the mirror.

Write out your thoughts:

Is there anything that’s bothering you, mama? Go for fifteen minutes on anything bothering you. Write it on a piece of paper and burn it. It always helps me ease up my mind 😀

Help someone:

There is no help that’s small. You may carry someone’s bag, open a door or even help pick some groceries for your neighbor. That sense of contentment is also a part of self-care.

Have a self-date:

Spend an hour alone doing something that relaxes you. Read a book, take a long hot bath that helps you relax or pick something from your wardrobe that feels great on you.

Plan a holiday for next weekend:

Tell people you’ll be away for a while, turn off your phone and spend some time with your family. Have a weekend trip out somewhere to take your mind off things that bother you.

Hug your kids:

Hug them and tell them you love them. They need to know it too and you will be loved more the more you open up to them.

Set a date with your partner:

You don’t have to be extra lavish while doing this. Some little addition to a room like candles, sweets and a lovely note will do enough. Try to talk out during this time and have some extra time together.

Tell yourself you’re a great mom:

You’re amazing, if not for anyone then your kids. They love you and you should love yourself too. You’re doing great, mama!
